Montgomery County and surrounding New River, Roanoke valleys rack up over 50 awards through Best of the Mountains poll by Blue Ridge Country

Montgomery County, Virginia - Blue Ridge Country magazine readers have voted Blacksburg a winner in multiple categories in this year’s Best of the Mountains poll. Located in scenic Montgomery County, Blacksburg received gold awards in the following categories: Best Medium Town, Best College Town and Best Retirement Town.
Blacksburg and the rest of Montgomery County racked up 15 awards through the 2013 Best of the Mountains poll. Here is a list of some of the most notable ones.
The 2013 Best of the Mountains award winners can be found in the July/August edition of Blue Ridge Country. With a readership of over 325,000, Blue Ridge Country is a bimonthly regional magazine that covers the mountain regions of nine southern states.
The Best of the Mountains poll is conducted once every five years. Readers submitted votes online over two months, producing almost 250 platinum, gold and silver awards for cities, attractions, people and activities in the Blue Ridge Mountain region.
Blue Ridge Country isn’t the first publication to recognize Blacksburg as a top mountain town. Virginia Business featured it in a 2008 article titled, “Blacksburg offers outdoor adventure and technology jobs.” Outside Magazine has also recognized it as a top 10 Dream Town to work, play and live the outside lifestyle.
