Creating a Roadmap to the New Innovation Economy
REGIONAL SUMMARIES NewVA Corridor - Roanoke/Blacksburg Region

August 2010

In February 2009, the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) sponsored and conducted an online survey of NewVA Corridor Technology Council's (NCTC) membership and other regional technology leadership that was distributed to over 1500 individuals. The survey solicited participation in identifying key regional technology industries and other information requested by NCTC. The results of that survey led to the selection of four industries that will be subjected to further study in specific industry focus group meetings. Industries selected by the NCTC leadership are:

  • Information Technology / Software
  • Biotechnology / Biomedical
  • Energy / Environment
  • Transportation / Transportation Technology

In December 2009, after the Creating a Roadmap to the New Innovation Economy - Phase 1 Report was released, focus groups were held for each of the industries; focus group participants were specifically selected to represent a variety of industry products and services, and to include both large and small businesses.

Note:
NewVa Corridor encompasses the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, Roanoke, Giles, Montgomery, Floyd and Pulaski as well as the cities of Covington, Radford, Roanoke and Salem.
